Pocono Grand Slam Results

It was a weird day, with a long fog delay until about noon. We just stood around for 5 hours, and then were quickly put into action for a combined race group practice / qualifying session. The Pocono Long Course configurations are sheer terror speed wise. With the gearing we used, top speeds were over 190 MPH. The repaved infield’s and curbing are awesome. Still all off camber, but really smooth, really wide, great curbs that you can use, better runoff. Kudo’s to the Mattioli’s for their significant investment in the facility!!!

The combined practice / qualify session went fine and I qualified first with a personal best time of 1:20.199.

The race started fine but then ended early due to a mechanical failure.   The main cluster gear in the transmission broke during yesterday’s race, and I bailed onto the North Course by a fire truck because the car filled up with smoke and thought I was on fire. The gear broke part of the transmission casing and the gear oil caused the smoke, but no fire. Newly freshened transmission (first time out on it), but we have spares of those so no huge deal. Best race lap and NASA Northeast track record of 1:20.281.

See everyone at NJMP in a few weeks!
