We’ve reached the mid-summer break in the NASA Northeast racing calendar, and here is an update of how the season has gone.

The season started in early April at New Jersey Motorsports Park’s Lightning track, and it was the first event with the Mustang GT-R body after a winter rebuild.  Track conditions were also pretty green as we were one of the first events at the track since the winter.  There were remarkably few problems with any changes that were made to the car over the winter.  We had a good practice day and started from the pole for the race and stretched out a huge lead.  The power steering became intermittent with about 3 laps to go which caused me to go off track and fill the radiator with grass ending our race in last place.

We were back at New Jersey Motorsports Park in May, but this time at the Thunderbolt track.  It rained hard during the entire practice day and we didn’t turn any laps.  The car performed well during the race, and we won from the pole, although lap times were significantly slower than the track record.

Next was the inaugural NASA Northeast race at Thompson Speedway.  The road course at Thompson was just reopened and we were the first proper race on the track.  Thompson is a very tight road course, and we tweaked on the car during Friday practice to help it turn in the tight corners.  We qualified on pole and won the race with stiff competition from Vincent Allegretta in his new GT-1/SU car.

The July race was a rare unmuffled event at Lime Rock Park over July 4th weekend.  I could only attend practice and the first of two race days.  Both days were impacted by bad weather.  Thursday practice was very hot and humid, and we were having electrical problems with the car.  A huge storm moved in Thursday night and it kept raining on and off on race day.  We ended up not racing due to the rain, although we did find the source of the electrical problem.

Next up is Watkins Glen in September!
